Is MNG really a competitor?

I believe the third paragraph would more accurately describe APNG as a successor or replacement for MNG, not a competitor to it.

My reasons are:

• Despite being called "Multi-image Network Graphics", no current browsers support MNG
• The only browsers MNG was supported in were Netscape & Firefox
• Mozilla, the makers of Firefox, created APNG as a replacement for MNG

Hack

The simplicity of the format, plus the Specification Revisions, gives a feeling it's just a quick hack of PNG.

List of computer programs and their support of APNG, along with their version numbers and release date

List of supporting programs

Several say both "Yes" and "Planned". This is obviously lying. If "Planned" is true, then "Support" needs to be "No". TooManyFingers (talk) 22:37, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
