Final weeks of WWII from another account
[edit]I have Shelby L. Stanton's World War II Order of Battle, which contains a combat narrative for the 80th Infantry Division in that war. It is in a very dispassionate tone and avoids virtually all "sensational" claims, not mentioning the division's proximity to Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, for example. The main difference with the account in this article is that, in Stanton, after rehab at Nuremberg the division crosses the Inn River and moves to Braunau, Austria (Hitler's birthplace), ending the war on the Enns River at Kirchdorf, still some distance from Czechoslovakia. Does anyone have an explanation for the considerable variation between accounts of the division's location and actions in the final weeks of the war?
