technical

[edit]

I removed the "This article may be too technical" notice, on the grounds that while the article does use technical terms, they are linked to appropriate articles for those who are unfamiliar with them. Besides, few people are likely to stumble across this article purely at random, without following a link from a related page. 137.222.42.77 07:46, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

name

[edit]

Doesn't this have a nickname, like the others? (Xena, Gabrielle, Santa, ...) 76.66.201.179 (talk) 12:37, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Largest unnamed body in solar system?

[edit]

What about (307261) 2002 MS4? -- Wassermaus (talk) 12:18, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you haven't already seen it, 2002 MS4 was officially named Máni last year. Pascalulu88 (talk) 19:00, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Rotation period

[edit]

Is it inappropriate to remove some numbers in Wikipedia? Aya's rotation period has 2 estimations, 8.78 h and 8.86 h. And I have deleted one of them before, since I thought it was good to clean up old data. Now, I don't think I'm going to delete one of the estimation, since it has been reverted 2 TIMES. I noticed some little numbers around them and I don't know what they mean ": 1132–1133  and : 6 ". This seemed to have made the article messier and could be unsatisfying for the viewers. Is it fine to remove them? Or removing them is a really bad idea. My planet is Homlos (talk) 09:00, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Usually if multiple values of a property are listed in the infobox, that property is likely uncertain (or the values are unchallenged by recent sources). Rotation periods of objects like Aya and Goibniu and pretty uncertain because of their low brightness variability. Unless you absolutely understand the sources and know what you're doing, please don't remove them without asking others on what they think.
The superscript numbers tell you which page you can find the cited information in the source. Please do not remove these, that just makes things harder for everyone.
If you have issue with something and plan on changing it, you should take the time to understand it before taking action. Nrco0e (talk • contribs) 17:02, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Article name

[edit]

Since this minor planet has been named now, do we still want to preface the name with 55565? Eris and Sedna do not have a numerical prefix to the names of their articles. Pascalulu88 (talk) 02:43, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Pascalulu88: Number prefixes only apply to minor planets that aren't dwarf planets. These include 4 Vesta and this article, but not Orcus and Sedna. You can read more about the decision behind the article naming at Talk:Sedna (dwarf planet)#Requested move 14 November 2022 and Talk:Orcus (dwarf planet)#Requested move 14 June 2024. Besides having the number next to the object helps identify how long it has been known. At #55565, Aya is not well known. Heck, I only remember it as 2002 AW197 as I have spent most of my time on comets+near-Earth asteroids last few years. -- Kheider (talk) 12:54, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
