Image:G8 colon.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Trivia
[edit]I would like to see the following incorporated into the text of this article; but without any source citations, it is impossible to distinguish these anecdotes from mere fiction:
- President Bill Clinton paid the Kölsch brewery Zur Malzmühle ("The Malt Mill") a surprise visit. Originally, the Clinton entourage had approached Herr Lommerzheim, owner of Gaststätte Lommerzheim (aka "Lommis") in Köln-Deutz, across the river. When asked to close his Kneipe so Clinton could have a quiet drink there, Lommerzheim reportedly replied that he would do no such thing, since it would mean his regulars would have no place to go have a drink. The Clinton entourage then had to contact Malzmühle on short notice.
- The summit was held in several locations in the old town of Cologne. After baggage checks, visitors and local people were allowed up to five meters distance from the statesmen on their walk through the old town. The heads of government were greeted with waving and some clapping on their way past, a scene very much in contrast to those of the G8 summits that were about to follow in the coming years.
I especially liked that tidbit about the luggage and the comment which used this small detail as a kind of yardstick for measuring how much things will be changed in future summits -- but, again, without any supporting reference, what else is to be done? --Tenmei (talk) 19:41, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Beginning with the 3rd G7 summit in London in 1977, the President of the European Commission or his successor President of the European Union has been a formal participant in successive annual events -- see "EU and the G8". In each article about G7/G8 summits, Lucie-Marie has deleted text about EU participation. These serial reverts ignored hyperlinks in the supporting inline citations which were also deleted. Despite attempts to engage discussion here, no consensus has been achieved. Her opinions here have merit, but they remain only opinions. No cited source supports these reverts. Our core policies require something different. WP:V seems relevant because "the threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth — whether readers can check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true."
