• Background: I thought initially that you might need to expand the first paragraph to explain the elimination format and the previous format, but in hindsight that'd get off topic really quickly, so I agree that you're right not to include it.

• Just seen it's in qualifying anyway - the way you've included it works, so I wouldn't change it.

• Free practice: " unable to place higher than sixth eventually" not sure that "eventually" is needed. I think you can drop it and just end the sentence at "sixth."
• Qualifying: "he was qualified in last place" - drop the "was".
• Just in case anyone is in any doubt (or skipped a line previously) change "his penalty meant" to "his penalty during practice meant"
• Race: Link Kinetic energy recovery system in the line with Jenson Button retiring from the race.
• Link Sauber and Marcus Ericsson
• Post-race: Link to the Red Bull racing team
