Should the name of the host nation include an inline link to the nation's article? For example, should the first instance of the word "Brazil" be bracketed so as to provide a link to Brazil? Rowsdower45 (talk) 06:16, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

• Strong Oppose First this is a clear WP:OVERLINK as it's almost impossible that any fan of the sport would not know where Brazil was and it is against a WP:FOOTY WP:CONSENSUS, and exactly the same question as you asked at Talk:2022 FIFA World Cup and you are WP:FORUMSHOPping hoping you'll get your way in one location. Should use American English

This article should be written in American English (e.g. soccer), since the host nation Brazil is located in the Americas. – Illegitimate Barrister (talk • contribs), 07:31, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

According to MOS:RETAIN and MOS:TIES, we should only change the variety of English used if an article has strong ties to a particular English-speaking nation. I don't think being in the Americas counts for that. Wburrow (talk) 13:48, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
