[edit]
Comment: Note to reviewers: If this draft is accepted, it should be moved to the title /v/. The current title is temporary due to the slashes breaking the AfC submission template. See also /b/ —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 16:10, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- True, /v/ is not a imageboard by itself, it's a board on 4chan. ~2025-35886-70 (talk) 22:10, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hey there, all boards of 4chan are imageboards, at least as far as I know. If you don't like the title you can move it to just "/v/" but I really don't think its necesary. NeoGaze (talk) 22:30, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: I have no preference for any hook, but I think the Minecraft and Gamergate ones would attract the most interest.

- Picking this baby up. My initial feeling is that the last one is the strongest; as someone who only ever used 4chan casually growing up, /v/'s contributions to meme culture is definitely what I associate with it most strongly. The GamerGate hook is technically correct (the best kind of correct), but while it was a foundational element of GamerGate, I think "involved" is kind of weak. I'd either choose not to use that as the hook, or I would provide more context for how it was involved. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 01:51, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
Basic checks:
- It is long enough
- It was nominated the same day it was approved at AfC
- The hooks are appropriately cited to reliable sourcing
- QPC is fulfilled
- Article is primarily in good shape, although I'd contend that the "end date" of 4chan's involvement with GG of 2016 isn't established in the article adequately
- @Cukie Gherkin: Thanks for the review! I agree with you that the Gamergate hook is too vague, so I propose a reformulation down here. About the end date, I merely followed what the Gamergate article states, which is that it lasted between August 2014 – 2015. If that is actually wrong I will clearly state the correct date with a backing source.
- ALT1b... that The hashtag #notyourshield originated within the 4chan's imageboard /v/ as a response to the criticism of misogyny during the GamerGate? NeoGaze (talk) 15:28, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry about the delay; for that, I think it's too esoteric, and assumes people will know what #notyourshield is. Further, looking up the term, I found a source from CNN stating: "One notable example was #NotYourShield, which purportedly represented women and minority supporters of Gamergate who were tired of feminist activists claiming to speak on their behalf. Chat logs later revealed that #NotYourShield was not an organic social media trend or movement but rather a campaign orchestrated by a small number of 4chan users using false online identities, seemingly in an attempt to defend Gamergate against criticisms of racism and misogyny. " As is, it may imply that the hashtag was organic or in good faith (the use of false identities would definitely suggest deception). I think that something more specific to show their involvement would be better, if we did indeed use GamerGate as an angle. I'm still personally favoring discussing /v/'s contributions to meme culture. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 08:15, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Cukie Gherkin: Fair enough, then I propose just leaving ALT1 as a last resort and proceed with the others. NeoGaze (talk) 23:43, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
I believe ALT3 is the strongest DYK hook of what has been provided. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 00:14, 1 December 2025 (UTC)
- Just noting that I was about to promote this, but PSHAW doesn't seem to want to show itself on this nomination, for some reason. (It's working just fine on others.) leeky, could you help, please? —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:58, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Free alternative to current infobox image?
[edit]Does it make sense to replace the image in the infobox with the one where the post thumbnails are censored (4chan's code is based on an open source board implementation so the image with censored thumbnails could be uploaded to Commons) or will this remove too much info for accurate representation of the board? Dabmasterars [RU/COM] (talk/contribs) 12:47, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- I personally prefer the images to be somewhat visible (as long as they are safe for work), since in imageboards images play a key aspect. NeoGaze (talk) 14:18, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- You're right, this would be preferable per WP:FREER. ArtemisiaGentileschiFan (talk) 14:07, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
