Steven Hudson

Steven Hudson (born 1958) is a Canadian business executive and financier. He is the founder and chief executive officer of ECN Capital, a financial services company focused on asset origination and management.[1]
Hudson has founded and led other financial firms, including Newcourt Credit Group and Element Financial.[2][3]
Biography
[edit]Hudson was born in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated from York University's Schulich School of Business in 1981 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.[4]
He was later designated a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (FCA).[5] Hudson founded Newcourt Credit Group in 1984. The company’s assets valued $24 billion by 1998, and it was acquired by CIT Group in 1999 for approximately $4 billion.[6][7] In 2011, he founded Element Financial, a company focused on equipment financing and fleet management.[8][7] In 2015, Element acquired the fleet management division of GE Capital.[9][10] In 2016, Element was divided into two publicly traded companies, Element Fleet Management and ECN Capital.[3] Hudson became chief executive officer of ECN Capital, which focused on credit origination and management.[11][12] He has also been involved in real estate, including the 2026 sale of a property in Midtown Palm Beach that he had purchased in 2025.[13]
Hudson has supported healthcare initiatives in Ontario, including contributions to St. Michael’s Hospital. He also offers scholarship opportunities for graduate students.[5][14][15]
He was recognized by University of Toronto Magazine as Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 (1996)[16] and also Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (Ontario) (2016)[5][17]
