The Simony Act 1688[a] (1 Will. & Mar. c. 16)[c] is an act of the Parliament of England that ensured that the simoniacal promotion of one person does not prejudice another and also protects certain leases made by simoniacal individuals.
Subsequent developments
[edit]Section 2 of the act, from "bee it" to "aforesaid that" was repealed by section 1(1) of, and part I of the schedule to, the Statute Law Revision Act 1888 (51 & 52 Vict. c. 3).
As of 2025[update], the act remains largely in force in England and Wales.

[edit]- 1 2 The citation of this act by this short title was authorised by section 5 of, and the second schedule to, the Statute Law Revision Act 1948. Due to the repeal of those provisions, it is now authorised by section 19(2) of the Interpretation Act 1978.
