Robinson Paredes Pacheco (14 February 1879 – 15 August 1963) was a Chilean politician who served as a minister.[1]
Early life
[edit]Paredes was born in Los Ángeles in 1878, the son of Vicente Paredes Ríos and Josefa Eugenia Pacheco. He studied at the Liceo de Concepción and later took courses in law. He married Clotilde Durcaux Trincado, with whom he had seven children.[2]
Paredes pursued a career in public administration. He served as acting intendant of Curicó Province, treasury official in Bulnes, head of the Welfare Department of the Labour Directorate, and president of the Permanent Conciliation Board of Santiago.[2]
He was also secretary of the Municipality of Concepción, secretary of the public welfare boards of Bulnes and Iquique, and a director of the retirement and social security fund for railway employees.[2]
Political career
[edit]A member of the Democratic Party, Paredes was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for Concepción for the 1915–1918 term. He returned to the Chamber on 27 June 1919, replacing Guillermo Acuña Valdivia, who had died the previous year, and served for the remainder of the 1918–1921 parliamentary term. He was elected again for Concepción for the 1921–1924 term. He served as second vice president of the Chamber in 1920 and twice in 1921.[2]
Under President Arturo Alessandri, Paredes served as Minister of Justice and Public Instruction from 28 August 1922 to 12 January 1923. He subsequently served as Minister of Industry, Public Works and Railways from 12 January to 16 March 1923. He returned to the public works portfolio from 1 February to 25 April 1924 and again from 16 May to 20 July 1924.[2]
