The Oncala Group is a geological formation in the Cameros Basin (N Spain). It dates back to the Berriasian.^[1]^[2] It includes more than 2000 m of sediments that comprise siliciclastic fluvial-tidal deposits, which change laterally eastwards and upwards to predominantly carbonate-sulphate deposits formed in shallow coastal salinas ^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6]. Its deposition was controlled by the development of synsedimentary faults that produced significant thickness variations ^[7].
