This module stores image data for Module:Portal. It is part of a system of 28 image data pages: one for each letter of the alphabet, one for other characters, and one for image aliases. Descriptions and links to each image data module can be found below. If you would like to add a new image or a new image alias, then please make a protected edit request at Template talk:Portal. Admins: to add new images or image aliases, navigate to the correct subpage and follow the instructions in the module code.

Portal images must be either in the public domain or available under a free license that allows commercial reuse and derivative works; fair-use images are not acceptable.

This page is used to generate images for portals, using {{portal}} and other templates, but also for WikiProjects, using the {{WikiProject box}} template, and for userboxes, using the {{User WP}} template.

Images are dispayed at a small size and should therefore be suitable icons. The portal link following the image is sufficient alternative text for the image, so the image should be unlinked, when possible, with an empty alt attribute: |link=|alt=. If linked for attribution purposes, the alt attribute should be brief.

Duplicate images

Below is a list of portals that use the same image (aliases are not included). This may not be a bad thing, as there is no reason why different portals cannot use the same image. However, this list can be useful for identifying cases where the same portal has multiple image entries. These cases should be fixed by moving all but one of the entries for that portal to Module:Portal/images/aliases. This allows the image for that portal to be updated by changing one entry rather than several, and reduces the risk of the same portal using multiple images.

List of duplicate images

The following duplicate images were found:

• The image "Flag of Australia.svg" is used for both portals "australian capital territory" and "australia".
• The image "Flag of France.svg" is used for both portals "france" and "french africa".
• The image "Flag of Pakistan.svg" is used for both portals "pakistan" and "gilgit-baltistan".
• The image "Pointing-right.svg" is used for both portals "contents/indexes" and "indexes".
• The image "Flag of Australia.svg" is used for both portals "australian capital territory" and "cocos (keeling) islands".
• The image "Flag of Sharjah.svg" is used for both portals "ras al khaimah" and "sharjah".
• The image "Flag of the United States.svg" is used for both portals "u.s. census" and "united states".
• The image "Flag of Australia.svg" is used for both portals "australian capital territory" and "military history of australia".
• The image "Flag of California.svg" is used for both portals "california" and "california state university".
• The image "Sf-userbox.png" is used for both portals "science fiction" and "speculative fiction/science fiction".
• The image "Scale of justice 2.svg" is used for both portals "english law" and "criminal justice".
• The image "Social sciences.svg" is used for both portals "society" and "social science".
