Rev. Mai Ki (Mara Chin: Maiki Chozah, Burmese: မိုင်ကီ) is a Myanmar pastor and development worker. She is the first ordained woman pastor of the Mara Evangelical Church (MEC) and serves as the executive director of Together for Sustainable Development (TSD). She is known for her work in education, women's empowerment, rural development, and humanitarian assistance in the Mara region of southern Chin State.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Mai Ki studied Old Testament and Hebrew Scriptures at Gurukul Lutheran Theological College in Chennai, India, during the 2003 academic year. And later returned to Myanmar to serve the Mara Evangelical Church.[2]
Career
[edit]Mai Ki became the first woman ordained as a pastor in the Mara Evangelical Church after the church approved the ordination of women in 2006.[3][4]
In 2003, she joined the Service and Development Department of the Mara Evangelical Church, where she led community development initiatives focusing on education, women's self-help groups, rural infrastructure, food security, and livelihoods. These activities later evolved into Together for Sustainable Development (TSD), which became an independent non-governmental organization in 2017.[5][6]
She currently serves as executive director of TSD and continues to work with church and civil society organizations in the Mara region.[7]
Awards and recognition
[edit]In 2013, Mai Ki received the Women's Creativity in Rural Life Award from the Women's World Summit Foundation in recognition of her work addressing poverty, food insecurity, and women's empowerment in Chin State.[8]
