LoTr 1 is a bubble-shaped elliptical nebula with a binary central star system.

Nomenclature

The nebula is commonly known as LoTr 1 or Longmore-Tritton 1. It was discovered in 1980 by astronomers A.J Longmore and S.B. Tritton and was found using the UK 1.2-meter Schmidt telescope.[4]

Characteristics

LoTr 1 belongs to the 'Abell 35 type' group of PNe.[5] The nebula features a central inner shell with an angular diameter of 47 ± 4" and Outer shell with a more Irregular shape that has a diameter of 4 ± 26".[3]

The Vexp for the inner shell is estimated to be 25 ± 4 km-1 while the outer shell is estimated to be 25 ± 4 km-1.[6]

Binary star AB Leporis

The primary star was classified to be a K 1 III-type giant[7] with an effective temperature of ~4750±150 K.[8] A barium abundance of 0.5 or greater classifies the system as a definite Ba ii star, with a value of 0.2–0.5 indicates the possibility of being a ‘mild’ Ba ii star.[9] The second companion is a White dwarf star.[3]
