Libiguin A is a naturally occurring limonoid found in Neobeguea mahafalensis, a flowering plant found in Madagascar with a long history of traditional medical use.[1][2][3][4][5] It is a derivative of phragmalin.[1] The compound has been reported to produce highly potent, strong, and long-lasting pro-sexual effects in rodents.[1][5] The semisynthesis of libiguin A from phragmalin has been described.[2] An analogue also found in Neobeguea mahafalensis, libiguin B, has similar pro-sexual effects but is far less potent in comparison.[1][2][5] Another analogue, a synthetic compound known as volufralin (LIB-01; DIC-2024), is under development for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.[6][7] Libiguin A was first described in the scientific literature by 2014.[1][2]
