Larry Berg is an American private equity executive and sports owner. On August 3, 2026, the Major League Soccer Board of Governors selected him to become the league's third commissioner, succeeding Don Garber.[1] Garber remains commissioner through the end of the 2026 season; Berg is expected to take office in January 2027.[1]

Career

Berg was a founding partner of Los Angeles FC and served the club's initial lead managing owner.[1] He is expected to divest his stake in LAFC before taking office.[1]

Selection as commissioner

Berg was chosen over former Fox Sports executive David Nathanson following a succession process begun in late 2025.[1]
