Lagenophora pumila, or papataniwhaniwha, is a species of small flower, endemic to New Zealand.[2][3]
Description
[edit]A small white and yellow flower.
Range
[edit]Across New Zealand, including on some outlying islands like Kapiti Island,[4] and more distant chains like the New Zealand Subantarctic Islands.[5] It is also known from Kao (island) in Tonga, from a single specimen.[6]
Habitat
[edit]Lowland to montane grasslands.
Ecology
[edit]Lagenophora pumila is a good indicator of wetlands.[1]
Puccinia lagenophoricola, a rust fungus, grows exclusively on Lagenophora pumila.[7]
Etymology
[edit]Pumila means 'small' in Latin.
