Hemant Modi
Hemant Nagindas Purshottamdas Modi, (also known name Spandan Modi) is an Indian actor who appeared in Gujarati and Hindi films, television serials, theatre productions and web series.[1][2] In 2008, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.[3] After jumping parole in 2014, he allegedly lived under multiple aliases while pursuing an acting career until his arrest in 2026.[4][5]
Acting career
[edit]Using the stage name Spandan Modi, Hemant Modi worked in theatre before appearing in Gujarati television serials and films.[6][7] According to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, he later acted in approximately 20 Gujarati films, two Hindi television serials, four Gujarati serials, 17 advertising films, and the web series Taskaree: The Smuggler's Web, starring Emraan Hashmi.[8]
He also appeared in supporting roles in Hindi films featuring actors including Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Mohanlal, Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha.[9][10] His credited film appearances include Thugs of Hindostan (2018), 53 Mu Panu (2022), and Full Stop (2025).[11][12]
Conviction
[edit]In August 2008, an Ahmedabad sessions court convicted Modi of the murder of Narendra alias Nano Yashwant Kamble and sentenced him to life imprisonment.[13] After being granted 30 days' parole in 2014.[14] He absconded and remained a fugitive until his arrest by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in May 2026.[15]
