EXEO Japan Co., Ltd. (Japanese: 株式会社エクシオジャパン, romanized: EXEO Japan Kabushiki-gaisha) is a Japanese company headquartered on the 38th floor of the Yokohama Landmark Tower in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. The company operates nursery schools under the "Sunrise Kids" brand, develops and sells the "Hoic" childcare information and communications technology (ICT) system, and operates the Japanese arm of the Hawaii-originated "Cafe Kaila" restaurant.[1][2]

The company was founded in November 2001 as 有限会社エクシオジャパン (Yūgen-gaisha Exeo Japan), tracing its origins to an insurance agency business started in May 1996 by its founder Takeshi Saeki (佐伯猛).[3] It was reorganized as a Kabushiki gaisha in February 2004.[3] From 2002 to 2022 the company operated a nationwide matchmaking-party business, described by Toyo Keizai Online in 2018 as holding more than 25,000 events per year across all 47 prefectures of Japan, with 462,108 participants in fiscal year 2016.[4] This business was transferred to Total Marriage Support Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of TMS Holdings, in July 2022.[3]

Since July 2024 the company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of EXEO Holdings Inc., a holding company formed by a share transfer.[5] EXEO Holdings was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange TOKYO PRO Market under the ticker code 362A on 6 June 2025.[6][7]

History

Takeshi Saeki began operating a life and non-life insurance agency in Chūō, Tokyo, in May 1996, an activity the company treats as its founding.[3] The company was incorporated as 有限会社エクシオジャパン in November 2001, and began operating matchmaking events and a marriage-consulting service in March 2002.[3] It was reorganized to a joint-stock corporation (Kabushiki gaisha) in February 2004 and relocated its head office to Nishi-ku, Yokohama, in June 2007.[3]

In April 2012 the company opened Sunrise Kids International School Yokohama in Yokohama, entering the childcare business.[3] In July of the same year it opened the first Japanese location of the Honolulu-originated pancake restaurant Cafe Kaila.[8][9] The company opened six small-scale licensed nursery facilities in April 2017 and released the "Hoic" childcare ICT system in June 2019.[3] The head office was relocated to the Yokohama Landmark Tower in June 2021, and a babysitter service was launched in May 2022.[3]

The matchmaking business was transferred to Total Marriage Support Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of TMS Holdings) in July 2022.[3] In July 2024 EXEO Holdings Co., Ltd. was established through a share transfer as the parent holding company of EXEO Japan.[5] EXEO Holdings received listing approval from the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 20 May 2025[10] and listed on the TOKYO PRO Market on 6 June 2025.[6][7]

Operations

Childcare business

EXEO Japan operates licensed nursery facilities, small-scale licensed nurseries, and corporate-led nurseries under the "Sunrise Kids Nursery" (サンライズキッズ保育園) brand. At the time of its parent's May 2025 listing application, the group operated 51 facilities.[5] As of April 2026 the network comprised 52 small-scale nurseries, one licensed nursery, and one corporate-led nursery, for a total of 54 facilities nationwide.[11] In its consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ended March 2026, EXEO Holdings reported that the childcare segment generated net sales of ¥2.911 billion and segment profit of ¥541 million, with five new facilities opened during the year.[12] The nursery curriculum incorporates English-language instruction and eurhythmics.[13]

ICT business

Since 2019 the company has developed and marketed a childcare operations support system called "Hoic", sold to nursery facilities and to local governments.[1] The system includes modules for attendance and departure management, child records, staff shift creation, and staff attendance tracking.[1]

Restaurant business

The company operates the Japanese location of Cafe Kaila, a Hawaiian breakfast restaurant that opened in Honolulu in 2007.[9][8] The Honolulu restaurant received the inaugural gold medal for Best Breakfast at Honolulu Magazine's Hale ʻAina Awards in 2011, and won gold in the same category in each year from 2013 through 2026.[8][14] EXEO Japan opened the first Japanese location in Tokyo in 2012[8] and a second Japan location at the Ikspiari shopping complex in the Tokyo Disney Resort in August 2014.[9][15][16] The Omotesando outlet moved to Shibuya Modi in 2017, as reported by Time Out Tokyo and Joshi Tabi Press.[17][18] The Shibuya restaurant has since been merged into the Cafe Kaila Ikspiari location in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture.[19] The Japanese arm has also been covered by Elle Japan.[20]

Former matchmaking business

From 2002 until 2022 the company organized matchmaking parties and operated a marriage consultation service called Bridal Information Center (BIC).[3] Toyo Keizai Online reported in a January 2018 interview that the business held more than 25,000 events annually across Japan's 47 prefectures, with 462,108 participants in fiscal year 2016.[4] In March 2021 the company entered a business alliance with Culture Convenience Club (CCC) Marketing to develop matchmaking services using an artificial-intelligence matching algorithm based on T-Point data.[21] The matchmaking business was transferred to Total Marriage Support Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of TMS Holdings, in July 2022.[3]

Corporate structure

EXEO Japan is a wholly owned subsidiary of EXEO Holdings Inc.,[5] which was established on 1 July 2024 as a holding company for the group.[6] EXEO Holdings was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange TOKYO PRO Market under the ticker code 362A on 6 June 2025.[6][7] The listed entity is EXEO Holdings; EXEO Japan itself is not directly listed. According to a large-shareholder report filed by Takeshi Saeki in June 2025, Saeki holds 99.95 percent of EXEO Holdings.[22]

For the fiscal year ended March 2026, EXEO Holdings reported consolidated net sales of ¥3.31 billion, operating profit of ¥229 million, ordinary profit of ¥260 million, and profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥202 million.[12] A June 2026 disclosure filed with the Tokyo Stock Exchange stated that the company's TOKYO PRO Market listing is positioned as a phased step toward a possible future listing on the Nagoya Stock Exchange or another general market.[23]
