EP Energy Transition (EPETr) is a Czech energy holding company based in Prague. It is part of EP Group and owns the German energy companies LEAG and MIBRAG Energy Group. Their operations include lignite mining and coal-fired power generation.[1]
EPETr was established to bring EP Group's German coal operations under a separate holding structure. It also manages investments in renewable energy, battery storage and new power plants intended to replace some of the existing coal capacity.[2][3]
History
[edit]The company was incorporated in 2021 as Mirtheaven a.s. and became EP Energy Transition in October 2023.[4]
EP Group then began moving its German lignite businesses to EPETr.[3] The company was also positioned to invest in renewable energy, battery storage and hydrogen-ready power generation.[2]
In 2023, EPETr acquired a 20% stake in LEAG from PPF Investments. EPH subsequently transferred its 50% stake to EPETr, increasing EPETr's ownership to 70%.[5]
In March 2025, EPETr bought PPF's remaining 30% stake and became the sole owner of LEAG.[6][7] In October same year, EPH transferred MIBRAG Energy Group to EPETr.[8]
Operations
[edit]EPETr operates mainly in Germany through LEAG and MIBRAG Energy Group. Their businesses include lignite mining and electricity generation in eastern Germany.[1]
The company is also involved in plans to replace parts of the coal business as Germany phases out lignite. Projects announced in 2023 included more than 7 GW of renewable-energy capacity, battery storage and hydrogen-ready power plants. Total planned investment was initially estimated at €10 billion.[2]
