Promotion, and sources

[edit]

I saw this draft being discussed, and I have a few suggestions for improving it.

It sounds like it's been written by someone with inside knowledge of the orchestra, and all of that insider material will need to be eliminated. Wikipedia accepts only what was already known to the public through reliable third parties who are not associated with the group and who have strong reputations for responsible publishing; as a rough guide, only what a random person could discover in a thorough search at the public library (including back issues of newspapers, magazines, etc) - after eliminating all the announcements and interviews, because those are first-party material. One relatively simple part of this is that the Governance section probably needs to just be deleted.

The reviewer mentioned promotion. I think in your case that can be quickly summarized as: delete the main paragraph at "Mission and membership", and delete all explanations of what the orchestra can offer to subscribers, except as already published by those reliable third-party sources. If this makes it sound as if Wikipedia wants nothing but a dry history lecture - yes, pretty much. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 00:03, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

(My last sentence could have been more specific: "nothing but a dry history lecture, exclusively dictated by clueless outsiders".) TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 03:44, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
