Why this resubmission

This is a substantial rewrite of an earlier draft submitted at AfC on 1 December 2025 (by user Wdecothi) and declined on `prof` boilerplate the following day. The rewrite has been substantially restructured:

• The lead now states the WP:NACADEMIC C1 and C7 claims explicitly, in line with reviewer expectations for academic biographies.
• Independent secondary sources (mainstream press, peer-reviewed journals) are placed adjacent to each notability claim rather than bunched in one paragraph.
• Mainstream-press coverage of the 2018 DeepMind Nature paper (FT, Guardian, Wired, Quanta, Scientific American, Nature News) is cited inline.
• The Sir Henry Dale Fellowship and Wellcome Senior Research Fellowship are independently sourced via the Royal Society and Wellcome scheme pages, rather than relying on the UCL profile alone.
• WikiProject Neuroscience and Biography banners are now in place to direct review to interested editors.

Unsourced information

@Ion Soggo Thanks for the feedback — both points fair.

• I've removed the date and place of birth, as I don't have a published reliable source for either. Happy to add them back if a citable source surfaces.
• On the doctoral thesis — point taken on the primary-source / WP:SCHOLARSHIP argument. I've removed the thesis citation; the title and year of the thesis remain in the infobox and a sentence in 'Early life and education' as an uncontroversial biographical fact. The substantive scientific contributions from that period are cited via the published papers (Barry et al. 2007, Burgess et al. 2007).

Unnecessary reference to the doctoral thesis

The PhD thesis should not be used as a reference, per WP:THESIS, unless it is cited to prove an important point. In my opinion, for a thesis to cited, it should have been published and available for review. Doctoral theses of notable academics are not usually cited in biographical articles in Wikipedia. Premature re-submission

@CaswellBarry: You seem to have submitted this draft for review on May 13. In my opinion, the draft is not yet ready for review. There are many facts that need citations (or removal). Besides, the overall style makes an impression of self-promotion, and should be adapted to Wikipedia standards (WP:PROMO).

I am not suggesting that you should make these improvements. The policy states "You are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly." (WP:COIEDIT). You may, however, point me to the appropriate sources, and I will do my best to make this article acceptable.

Additionally, I am convinced that Dr. Caswell Barry, the neuroscientist, is a notable academic, and there should be a biographical article about him in Wikipedia.

@Ion Soggo: Thank you — and apologies. I had made the changes you flagged (DOB and place of birth removed, thesis citation removed) and then accidentally submitted for review in the same session rather than leaving the draft (wasn't too sure what the correct process was).

If you can point to specific claims that need better sourcing, or passages that read as promotional, I will point you to appropriate references. I'm aware of WP:COIEDIT and trying to work within it. Many thanks for your help!

@CaswellBarry: I have prepared a new revision of this article and submitted it for review. Please let me know if there are verifiable published sources of such biographical details as pre-college school.
