  • Comment: The sources used here aren't of the quality indicated by WP:SIRS, indeed they appear to be more of the sort shown in WP:CORPTRIV. Very few companies of this profile will get a Wikipedia entry, the notability requirements are stringent. In addition, Wikipedia can't be used as a source. • Comment: Revised September 2026 in response to the review above. Sources that were primary or promotional (Business Wire release, the company's own blog, a Wikipedia circular reference, a syndicated funding brief) have been removed. The draft now rests on editorially independent reporting: news coverage by Finextra, Business Standard, Tech.eu and ECO of the 2025 seed round; three reported pieces by Jornal Económico and an interview by Forbes Portugal on the company's Portuguese operations (2026); and coverage by Finextra, Financial Reporter, Computer Weekly, RegTech Analyst and SAPO Tek of the April 2026 governance report and by Jornal Económico and Executive Digest of a July 2026 industry forum addressed by a European Central Bank supervisory board member. Company claims that are not confirmed by an independent source (employee count, certifications, named staff below founder level, client metrics) have been left out. I remain affiliated with the company, as disclosed above. Shashank at Zango (talk) 12:09, 7 September 2026 (UTC)

Zango AI (legally Zango Global Inc., trading as Zango) is a British regulatory technology company that develops artificial intelligence software for regulatory compliance in financial services. Founded in 2024 by Ritesh Singhania and Shashank Agarwal, the company is headquartered in London and has offices in Lisbon and Bengaluru.[1][2] Its software uses AI agents to monitor regulatory change, compare new rules with a firm's internal policies and controls, and review financial promotions, with outputs checked by human reviewers.[3][4]

History

[edit]

Zango was founded in 2024 by Ritesh Singhania and Shashank Agarwal. Singhania had previously founded ClearGlass, a pension-fund compliance platform, and was head of technology at Simplitium, which was acquired by Nasdaq; Agarwal had co-founded Third Watch, a fraud-detection company acquired by Razorpay, and led trust and compliance engineering at PhonePe.[1][3] The company was incubated at South Park Commons, its first investor.[3]

In July 2025 the company emerged from stealth and announced a US$4.8 million seed round led by Nexus Venture Partners, with participation from South Park Commons, Notion Capital, No Label Ventures, Start Ventures, and the angel investors Richard Davies, chief executive of Allica Bank, and Alan Morgan, a former head of financial services at McKinsey & Company in EMEA.[1][3][5] At the time, the company said its software was in use at Novobanco in Portugal and at the digital banks Monzo and Juni, and that the funds would be used to expand its teams in London and Bengaluru and to extend the product beyond banking into insurance and asset management.[1][3][6]

In January 2026 the company appointed a country lead for Portugal, Pedro Sousa, and said it planned further hiring in the country.[2] In April 2026 it added Manuel Gonçalves Ferreira, a former chairman of BBVA Portugal, to its advisory board and stated a target of working with seven of the ten largest banks and insurers in Portugal by 2027.[7] In May 2026 the company told Forbes Portugal it was working with three of the six largest financial institutions in Portugal.[4]

Products

[edit]

Zango's platform is organised as a set of AI agents for compliance functions at banks, insurers and other regulated firms. Reported capabilities include horizon scanning of regulatory publications, gap analysis that maps regulatory changes to a firm's internal policies and controls, policy management, and the review of financial promotions and marketing material against conduct rules.[3][8][2] The company has described a document-segmentation method for long regulatory texts that preserves cross-references between documents, and states that outputs are reviewed by compliance specialists before reaching clients.[8][1]

Research and industry activity

[edit]

In April 2026 Zango published The Future of AI Governance and Compliance in Financial Services, a report based on interviews with 27 senior risk, compliance and AI-governance executives at UK and European financial institutions and four roundtables with a further 60 practitioners. Participating institutions included Santander, St James's Place, Stripe, Standard Chartered, Lloyds Banking Group, Monzo, Allica Bank, Commerzbank and Revolut.[9][10] The report found that, unlike the United States and Singapore, the United Kingdom had no sector-specific implementation guidance for AI governance in financial services, and that firms were deploying generative and agentic AI faster than their risk and compliance functions could oversee it. It called for practitioner-developed guidance modelled on the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group.[10][11] The foreword was written by Lord Clement-Jones, co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence, and the report was launched at the House of Lords.[9][12] Coverage in Portugal reported the study's finding that about 75 per cent of financial institutions were using AI while lacking effective governance.[13]

In April 2026 the International Compliance Association announced a partnership with Zango to develop training courses on the use and governance of AI for compliance professionals, following a series of free workshops the company had run with the association.[14]

In July 2026 Zango convened a forum in Lisbon on artificial intelligence in banking and insurance, attended by representatives of the European Central Bank, the Banco de Portugal, the Portuguese securities regulator CMVM, the insurance supervisor ASF, Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Ageas. Pedro Machado, a member of the ECB's Supervisory Board, told the forum that more than 93 per cent of banks under ECB supervision were using AI and that European banks had invested about €4 billion in the technology by the end of 2025.[15][16]

Advisory board

[edit]

The company's advisory board includes Gary Dolman, a co-founder of Monzo; Dean Nash, global chief operating officer for legal at Santander; Manuel Gonçalves Ferreira, a former chairman of BBVA Portugal; and Richard Davies, chief executive of Allica Bank, who is also an investor.[2][7][10][1]
