Zach Reino is an American actor, singer, and comedian. He trained with the Upright Citizens Brigade, where he regularly performs.[1] He hosts the podcast Off Book: The Improvised Musical.
Early life
[edit]Reino was born in Santa Barbara, California.[2] He received a bachelor's degree in theater from University of California, Irvine.[1]
Career

[edit]Reino joined the Upright Citizens Brigade in 2010 where he became a regular performer on improve house teams such as Baby Wants Candy.[1][3] He began a partnership in 2011 with UCB alumnus Jessica McKenna while they both performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
In 2021, Reino and McKenna co-wrote Where the Fore are We starring Elizabeth Banks and David Wain.[4] Later, they co-wrote and directed musical comedy Three Months Later starring Kristen Bell which released in 2026.[5]
Television, film, and web series
[edit]In 2016, Reino starred as Josh Mullen in scripted comedy TV show "Fatal Decision" through CollegeHumor on Go90. It was based on a comedy sketch by CollegeHumor in 2008.[6] Later, the show became available through Dropout in 2025.[7]
Reino and McKenna have worked together on musical sketches for Funny or Die, BuzzFeed, and Nickelodeon.[8] In 2016, Reino and McKenna wrote and starred together in ABC's web series, Serious Music.[9] Along with Zeke Nicholson, the pair also featured in a 2021 episode of Dropout series Game Changer titled "The Official Cast Recording", in which they improvised a short musical based on host Sam Reich's prompts.[10] This was later adapted into a full series on Dropout titled Play It By Ear the following year.[11]
In 2022, Reino, along with Neil Casey, Jessica McKenna, and Niccole Thurman, won the Writers Guild of America Award in the category "Quiz and Audience Participation" for his work on the series Baking It.[12] In 2023, he won the same award together with the other writers of Baking It and was nominated for the award a third time in 2024.[13][14]
In 2026, Reino and McKenna co-directed and starred in yet to be released partially improvised film, Mock Trial.[15]
Podcasts
[edit]Since 2017, Reino and McKenna have hosted the musical comedy podcast Off Book: The Improvised Musical, which was initially on the Earwolf network.[16] In 2023, the podcast became a performance in front of a live audience.[17]
