Xynobite is a late 90s Dutch crossover band from South Holland, centered around guitarist Pico and rapper Slow. The band made waves in the Netherlands particularly with fiercely heavy metal-rap tracks.

Biography

[edit]

In 1995 Xynobite was formally founded in Delft as a metal-rap band. They played in venues[1] like Speakers[2] in Delft, Het Paard in The Hague, LVC[3][4][5] in Leiden, and festivals in Waalwijk, Utrecht, Haarlem, Rotterdam, Katwijk[6] (Higland Festival[7]) and Delft (Festival Westerpop[8]).

On december 18th, 1999 Xynobite won De Grote Prijs van de Bollenstreek at Scum (Katwijk)[9]. The band also increasingly performed as a supporting act for similar bands in the underground scene, such Backfire![10]. Their debut CD Trust! was self-released in 1999. The band also caught the attention of the independent record label Wot Nxt Records[11][12]. Through this label, Xynobite's most famous album was released in 2001: the EP Things Go Better With Coke[13]. By 2003, the band was done playing and touring, bringing an end to Xynobite.

After decades of relative radio silence, the Dutch music producer Elo Vesk[14], in collaboration with the band, released three 30th-anniversary remixes of the songs Fight the System, Less than Zero, and Fuckable in 2025 and 2026.

Musical Style

[edit]

Xynobite's music is distinctly diverse and characterized by a crossover between raw guitar music and hip-hop. The sound relies heavily on the contrast between analog instruments, such as distorted guitar riffs and heavy drums on the one hand, and electronic samples on the other.

Members

[edit]

The lineup of Xynobite consisted of the following musicians:

  • Jose Zapico (Pico) – Guitar
  • Antoine van der Klaauw/Jan Schoneveld (1997) – Bass guitar
  • Remco Cornelissen/Jelle (1997) – Drums
  • Nes van Herreveld (Slow) – Vocals
