Draft:Xavier Catholic School

  • Comment: Leavenworth County has a population of under 100,000; there is no reason to assume its local media has the necessary resources & editorial standards to be considered reliable sources, especially without any links. Devonian Wombat (talk) 12:04, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Only minor cosmetic changes since previous decline. There are currently no independent or secondary sources talking about the school, and several of the sources do not exist – the Kansas Historical Society source, for instance, refers to a completely unrelated entry in their encyclopedia, and there doesn't seem to be a page about "Our foundress" at the "Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth" website (not that such a page would help show notability for the school, to be clear.) bonadea contributions talk 11:34, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

Xavier Catholic School is a private, Roman Catholic parochial school located in Leavenworth, Kansas. Serving students from preschool through eighth grade, it is operated by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. The school is the modern successor to the first Catholic educational institutions established in the Kansas Territory during the mid-19th century.[1]

History

[edit]

The school is named for Mother Xavier Ross (1813–1895), who founded the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (SCL) and established the first Catholic schools in the region in 1858.[2] The current unified institution was established in 1979 through the consolidation of four Leavenworth parish schools: St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart, and St. Casimir.[3] Between 1998 and 2017, Xavier served as the primary elementary and middle school for the Leavenworth Regional Catholic School System (LRCSS). Following the closure of Immaculata High School in 2017, Xavier returned to its current configuration as a standalone Pre-K–8 institution.[4]

Campus and operations

[edit]

The school is located on Muncie Road and comprises a main K–8 academic building and an early childhood center.

Enrollment and demographics

[edit]

As of the 2023–2024 academic year, the school has a student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 13:1.[5] The curriculum is governed by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and is accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education.

Early childhood center

[edit]

Opened in 1986, the preschool facility houses the Xavier Extended Care (XEC) program. This center provides services to the local community and families associated with the Fort Leavenworth military installation.[6]
