Xalkiadakis S.A. (Greek: Χαλκιαδάκης Α.Ε.) is a Greek supermarket chain headquartered in Gazi, Heraklion, Crete. Operating exclusively within the island of Crete, the company manages a network of 41 retail locations and employs over 2,000 people.[1]
History
[edit]Xalkiadakis S.A. was officially established in 1980, in Heraklion, Crete, though the family's commercial activities date back earlier. The company gradually expanded its supermarket operations across the island's major municipalities.[2]
A major corporate milestone occurred in 2014 when the Greek retail group Sklavenitis acquired a 60% majority stake in the company. Despite the acquisition, the chain retained its original brand name and continues to be managed by Minas Xalkiadakis, who serves as President and CEO.[3]
Operations
[edit]For the fiscal year 2024, the company reported a turnover of €239.79 million.[4] The chain focuses heavily on the distribution of local Cretan agricultural products alongside standard domestic and international grocery items.
