Career
[edit]Joining the Austrian team run2gether in 2014, Viola made her breakthrough on the international stage that same year..[1] She accompanied Lucy Wambui Murigi during her debut appearance at the World Mountain Running Championships in Casette di Massa. While Murigi secured the silver medal, Viola finished in fifth place.[2] She won the inaugural Bibione is Surprising Run road race, finishing more than three minutes ahead of Giovanna Pizzato[3]. In October, she claimed victory at the Morat-Fribourg race, finishing ahead of her compatriots Cynthia Kosgei and Mary Wangari[4]
On February 10, 2015, she ran in cross-country running at the Cinque Mulini race. Viola ran in the lead pack before being joined at the front by Portuguese runner Ana Dulce Félix. The two athletes contested the lead until the final lap, when Viola accelerated to secure the victory.[5] Viola entered the Morat-Fribourg race as a pre-race favorite but finished second behind Ethiopia's Asefa Sutume. Sutume established an early lead at a fast pace before slowing in the latter stages of the race. Although Viola reduced the margin in the final sections, she finished two minutes behind Sutume.[6]
