Early life and education

Born in Amritsar to Sadhu Singh and Bhagwant Kaur, she grew up across Dharamshala, Batala, and Gurdaspur before settling in Chandigarh in the early 1970s. Alongside holding an M.A. in English Literature, she completed a 'Praveen' degree in dance and instrumental music from the Sangeet Kala Kendra, Gurdaspur.
