The untitled KPop Demon Hunters sequel[a] is an upcoming American animated musical urban fantasy film written and directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. It serves as the sequel to KPop Demon Hunters (2025).
Production
[edit]In late August 2025, following the massive success of KPop Demon Hunters (2025), a sequel was greenlit at Netflix.[1] Maggie Kang, co-writer and co-director of the first film, would return to write the screenplay.[2] In February 2026, Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson suggested that the sequel would likely not be finished by 2029.[3] The film was officially greenlit in March 2026, with Kang and Chris Appelhans returning to co-write and co-direct.[4]
Attention garnered by the sequel based on the success of the first film has been exceptional for the animation industry with Kang and Appelhaus apparently successfully negotiating a 10 million dollar (USD) per annum contract for the sequel; with up to 40 million USD for the estimated four year production schedule for the sequel.[5]
