Underground Fire is a Swedish rock band formed in Karlstad, Sweden, in 2015 by musician Robert Fjällsby, better known as Rob Coffinshaker. The band's music incorporates elements of gothic rock, punk rock, post-punk, power pop and classic rock.[1]
The band has released two studio albums, Ashes of Life (2020) and Hollow Grounds (2026), as well as several singles and other releases.[1]
History
[edit]Underground Fire was formed in Karlstad in 2015 by Robert Fjällsby, who performs under the name Rob Coffinshaker. Fjällsby is also known for his work with the bands The Coffinshakers and Gehennah.[1]
The band's early releases appeared in 2017, including the 7-inch singles Underground Fire and I Wasn't Made For This World. The singles "Summer Ends" and "End of the Night" followed in 2018.[1]
The band's debut studio album, Ashes of Life, was released in 2020 by Critical Mass Recordings. It was recorded at Studio Cobra in Stockholm, with Martin "Konie" Ehrencrona involved in the recording and production.[2]
A 12-inch release titled Passage, featuring the songs "Passage" and "Poison Heart", was released by Critical Mass Recordings in 2021.[3]
The band's second studio album, Hollow Grounds, was released on 17 April 2026 by Critical Mass Recordings.[4]
Musical style
[edit]Underground Fire's music has been described as goth rock, incorporating elements of punk, power pop, post-punk and classic rock.[1] Reviews of the band's releases have drawn comparisons with The Sisters of Mercy, The Leather Nun, Fields of the Nephilim, Blue Öyster Cult and Johnny Cash.[5][6]
Media coverage
[edit]Swedish journalist and author Fredrik Strage has written about Underground Fire in connection with the band's second studio album. In a 2026 column for EFN, Strage included Hollow Grounds among new album releases and described the band's music as goth rock.[7]
On 30 July 2026, Rob Coffinshaker appeared as a guest on Strage's podcast Hemma hos Strage in an episode titled "Rob Coffinshaker om mördarballader". The episode discusses Coffinshaker's musical career and his work with Underground Fire.[8]
