TwinMOS Technologies Ltd. (Chinese: 勤茂資通股份有限公司; pinyin: Qínmào Zītōng Gǔfèn Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī) is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer. The company was founded in May 1998 by William Chen (Chinese: 陳文藝; pinyin: Chen Wenyi). Its main products include DRAM modules[2], USB flash drives, hard disk drives, solid-state drives, memory card, Personal Video Player (PVP)[3] and Media Players[4][5] TwinMOS is based in Taiwan and sells its products across the globe via local distributors/partners, including Africa, Asia, US and Europe.[6]
History

[edit]TwinMOS Technologies was founded in 1998 in Taipei, Taiwan[7] by William Chen, initially focusing on memory modules and DRAM products for personal computers. The company’s early product offerings included desktop and notebook DRAM modules and flash memory products. TwinMOS announced a major strategic shift, expanded into flash-memory products and entered the wireless communications market (WLAN and Bluetooth) via investments and M&A.[8][5][9]
In 2001, TwinMOS established a regional subsidiary, TwinMOS Technologies Middle East FZE[10], in Dubai to cater to markets in the Middle East, North Africa, India[11], and CIS regions, establishing subsidiaries and distributors in the Middle East and South Asia.
Product expansion and diversification
[edit]Throughout the 2000s, TwinMOS expanded its product lines beyond standard DRAM modules[12] to include various consumer storage solutions, such as USB flash drives, flash cards, Personal Video Player (PVP)[13], Boombox[14] and later SSDs. The company developed memory technology products to serve both general computing and performance markets.[15]
Acquisition and corporate changes
[edit]In March 2006, TwinMOS announced plans to merge with Singapore-based Memory Devices Ltd[16] via a share swap arrangement.[17][18] The agreement was intended to enhance TwinMOS’s global reach by combining Memory Devices’ manufacturing capabilities with TwinMOS’s established brand and distribution channels. By 2008 TwinMOS announced it would cease production of DRAM modules due to dropping DRAM pricing.[19][20][21]
Recent activities
[edit]In the 2010s and 2020s, TwinMOS continued operations focused on storage,[22] including SATA and NVMe solid-state drives, USB flash drives, and DDR4 and DDR5 memory modules. In the 2010s and 2020s, TwinMOS went on to design and sell computer storage and memory devices such as SATA and NVMe solid state drives (SSDs), USB flash drives, DDR4 and DDR5 memory modules. In addition, the company exhibited its products and services internationally, such as in Computex Taipei[23][24], GITEX Global and Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and interacted with customers, distributors and industry partners.
