Tonio Kibz
[edit]Tony Kibet (born 17 July 1998), known professionally as "Tonio Kibz", is a Kenyan media personality, digital content creator, broadcaster, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the co-founder, executive director, and co-host of ''The Sandwich Podcast'', which is recognized as one of the most-listened-to podcasts in Kenya.[1][2][3][4]
Early life and education
[edit]Kibet born and raised in Kisumu. He attended Moi High School Kabarak for his secondary education. He later pursued higher education at Riara University where he did Business Management.
Career
[edit]Podcasting and Digital Media
[edit]In August 2020, Kibet alongside co-creators Owen Njuguna, and George Nyamita launched ''The Sandwich Podcast''. Delivered in a mix of English, Kiswahili, and Sheng, the weekly comedy and lifestyle show gained rapid popularity among East African youth for its conversational, relatable approach to trending social topics and personal anecdotes. Under his leadership as executive director, the podcast was selected as a recipient of the Spotify African Podcast Fund.[5][6]
Beyond the weekly digital releases, Kibet and his team established "Sandwich Sundays," a live event experience designed to build community engagement around the audio brand.[7]
Mainstream Broadcasting and Television
[edit]Expanding into terrestrial radio, Kibet joined the Nairobi-based urban radio station Homeboyz Radio. He serves as a radio host, notably co-presenting programming blocks such as ''Power Up HBR'' and ''Lotan and Kibz''[8]
In late 2024, Kibet crossed over into mainstream television, starring as part of the ensemble cast in the Eugene Mbugua-produced roast comedy series ''The Hot Seat'', which debuted on the streaming platform Showmax.[9]
