The Balm Box is an American company that curates and sells care packages designed specifically for cancer patients. Founded in 2020 by entrepreneur and cancer survivor Liz Benditt, the company offers premium, functional gift boxes intended to address the practical needs of people undergoing cancer treatment.[1]
Background
[edit]Liz Benditt is a six-time cancer survivor who previously worked as a corporate marketing executive. She holds a bachelor's degree from Boston University and an MBA from the University of Southern California. She has also taught undergraduate marketing courses at the University of Kansas.[2] Drawing on her personal experience as a patient and working mother navigating multiple cancer diagnoses, Benditt identified a gap in the market for gifts that prioritize function over sentiment.[3]
Founding
[edit]The Balm Box was launched in October 2020 following research with more than 500 patients and caregivers, which informed the curation of its product offerings.[4] The company's mission is to provide elegant and practical care packages as an alternative to novelty or decorative gifts.
Products and retail
[edit]The Balm Box sells curated gift packages for patients through its website, organized by cancer treatment type (such as chemotherapy, radiation, or mastectomy recovery).[5]Select products, including mastectomy and seat belt pillows.[6] Common items across the product lines include scent-free lotions, lip balm, essential oil roll-ons formulated for nausea relief, acupressure wristbands, ice packs, insulated tumblers, soft throw blankets, and coloring books intended for mental distraction during treatment.[7] Radiation-specific boxes include botanical burn balms and seat belt barrier pillows designed to protect sensitive skin during daily driving to treatment.[8]
Recognition
[edit]Benditt has been featured in coverage by NBC, USA Today, and Yahoo News.[9] She was named Susan G. Komen Kansas and Western Missouri's 2020 Woman of Action.[10] She has also been selected for two entrepreneurship accelerator programs and received a business grant from WomensNet.[11]
In July 2026, Benditt was named a recipient of the 2026 BMO Celebrating Women grant program, one of 15 U.S. small businesses selected to receive a $10,000 grant.[12]
That same month, Benditt was named the grand prize winner of Verizon's Small Business Digital Ready Super Pitch competition, receiving $20,000 and two tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final.[13][14][15]
