The Allfather Awakens is the thirteenth studio album of the Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. It was released on 2 October 2026, through Metal Blade Records.
Background
[edit]On 22 July 2026, Amon Amarth announced The Allfather Awakens, scheduled for release on 2 October 2026. The announcement was accompanied by the release of the single Gjallarhorn and its music video.[1][2] The album was recorded at Hansen Studio in Ribe, Denmark, across two sessions that took place between spring 2025 and March 2026.[3]
Critical reception
[edit]Early reviews of The Allfather Awakens were generally positive. Steel Druhm of Angry Metal Guy praised the album's songwriting and considered it an improvement over the band's previous album, The Great Heathen Army.[4]
Writing for MetalTalk, Paul Hutchings praised the album's melodic death metal sound and considered it a strong addition to Amon Amarth's discography, while criticizing the acoustic track Upphaf.[5]
Writing for Metal Planet Music, Rick Eaglestone gave The Allfather Awakens 8 out of 10. He highlighted the album's songwriting variety and noted that its track-by-track construction occasionally makes it feel "more like a collection than a journey". Eaglestone also described it as a more varied release than the band's previous album, The Great Heathen Army.[6]
