The Tata Sierra EV (stylised Sierra.ev) is a battery electric subcompact crossover SUV produced by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles. It is the electric counterpart to the second-generation Tata Sierra, reviving Tata's Sierra nameplate as an all-electric model. It is built on Tata's Gen 2 Acti.ev platform; the ICE version uses a separate Atlas architecture.[1] It is Tata Motors' seventh electric car, joining the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV.[2]

The Sierra EV launched in India on 30 June 2026, priced from ₹18.79 lakh (US$20,000) to ₹25.99 lakh (US$27,000) (ex-showroom).[2] It is offered in five variants: Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered A.[2] Bookings opened on the day of launch, with deliveries beginning on 15 July 2026.[3]

Powertrain

[edit]

The Sierra EV is offered with a 63 kWh battery in a rear-wheel-drive configuration, and a 75 kWh battery in either rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive form. The dual-motor variant produces 306 hp (228 kW) and 504 N⋅m of torque, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds at a kerb weight of around 2.1 tonnes.[1] NDTV Auto reported the all-wheel-drive system pairs a 175 kW motor on the rear axle with a 103 kW motor on the front axle.[3]

Claimed MIDC range is 565 km for the 63 kWh battery, 665 km for the 75 kWh rear-wheel-drive version and 624 km for the 75 kWh dual-motor version.[1] With a 7.2 kW AC charger, a 10-100% charge takes 8.9 hours for the 63 kWh battery and 10.5 hours for the 75 kWh battery; both can charge from 20-80% in about 26 minutes on a 120 kW DC fast charger.[1] The battery pack carries a lifetime warranty.[3][2]

Features

[edit]

Top-spec Empowered A trim includes three in-cabin screens, a head-up display, powered and ventilated front seats with driver-seat memory, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier, and a 12-speaker JBL Black audio system with Dolby Atmos.[1] Ground clearance is 205 mm, and the frunk offers 55 litres of storage on single-motor versions and 35 litres on the dual-motor variant; boot capacity is 622 litres. The spare wheel is replaced by a puncture repair kit.[1] Other features reported at launch include a summon mode that can move the car out of a parking space unassisted and a wireless phone charger. The cabin also gets ambient lighting.[3]

The Sierra EV also introduces DrivePay, an in-car voice payment system developed with ToneTag, to the Sierra range; DrivePay was introduced on the Harrier EV for EV charging and toll payments. The Sierra EV adds a voice-ordering option, initially integrated with the coffee chain Blue Tokai.[4] Other reported features include keyless entry and start via an NFC card and a 540-degree camera system.[5]

Safety

[edit]

Six airbags are standard.[1] The Sierra EV had not been independently crash-tested at the time of Autocar India's review; the ICE Sierra received a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.[1]

Reception

[edit]

Autocar India gave the Sierra EV an overall score of 8 out of 10, rating its exterior design and engineering 9/10, features and safety 9/10, performance and refinement 8/10, range and efficiency 8/10, ride comfort and handling 8/10, interior space and comfort 7/10, and value for money 7/10.[1] The review praised its road presence and the go-anywhere capability of the AWD variant. It also noted that practicality carries over from the ICE model.[1] Criticisms centred on inconsistent interior fit and finish and the absence of a spare tyre.[1] Moneycontrol's review described the car as powerful, spacious and feature-loaded, while also noting some rough edges.[6] NDTV Auto's first drive review, conducted in Coimbatore, called it Tata's most refined and capable electric SUV to date, while noting the absence of an auto up/down function on the front passenger window.[5]

An owner writing on the enthusiast forum Team-BHP after 1,000 km reported real-world range between 420 and 460 km in mixed driving, below the claimed MIDC figures, and described the Sierra EV as the most practical all-round option among several EVs the owner had test-driven, including the Mahindra BE 6 and Tata Harrier EV.[7]

Autocar India separately observed that the Sierra EV's market position overlaps partly with the Curvv EV and Harrier EV within Tata's own range.[1]
