Suitor Armor is a fantasy romance webcomic by Purpah. It has been published digitally on Webtoon since 2020, and in print by Ten Speed Graphic since 2024.
Plot
[edit]Lucia, the lady-in-waiting of the king's betrothed Lady Kirsi, is forced to hide her wings and pointed ears to mask her true identity as a fairy, who are at war with the human kingdom. When court magician Norrix reveals a suit of armor he brought to life with his magic, Lucia discovers the armor is more aware than initially appears.[1][2][3][4]
Release
[edit]Suitor Armor was originally self-published on Webtoon's Canvas platform before Purpah was contacted by the company to make the series a Webtoon Original.[5] The relaunched comic begin publishing weekly on Webtoon in September 2020. Starting in 2025, the series was adapted into voiced video episodes.[6]
In 2024, it was announced that Ten Speed Graphic would be adapting the series for print. The first volume was published on November 12th, 2024.[7]

The first three print volumes contain an additional story showing how the characters of Baynard and Peres became a couple.[11]
Reception
[edit]School Library Journal gave the first print volume a starred review.[4] Nick Taylor on The Hub, a blog for the Young Adult Library Services Association, noted how Purpah explored "the history of this fantasy world while keeping the pace quick and the story beats character-focused", and compared the series to Beauty and the Beast, Nimona, James Tynion IV's Wynd, and Sleepless.[12]
C. M. Ramsburg of Comic Book Resources gave the series a rating of 8 out of 10 stars, praising the art and side characters, though the reviewer was critical of the large amount of solid-colored backgrounds.[13]
Rebekah Ilo of Philstar Life noted the comic's focus on depicting healthy romantic relationships, pointing out a scene where Lucia becomes upset at Modeus for saying he was made for her, the Full Metal Alchemist-like magic system, and the inclusion of queer characters.[14]
The first volume was included in the 2026 Great Graphic Novels for Teens list.[15]

Gr 7 Up–Lucia has been living as a lady-in-waiting for years, helping to prepare Lady Kirsi for her wedding. Each day, Lucia ties down her wings and conceals her pointed ears in her hair, so that nobody in the castle will guess that she's not really human. She tries not to think about the ongoing war between the humans and the fairies, and to focus instead on ways that she can help Lady Kirsi. When Norrix the court mage enchants a suit of armor to win battles and keep the king happy, it seems like an entertaining idea. But when that suit of armor wins a battle and then presents a rose to Lucia, suddenly things become more serious. Lucia feels a connection to this suit of armor, names him Modeus, and they begin to form a bond, even though it feels like it should be impossible. This graphic novel is already popular as a Webtoon, so it has a fan base of readers who will be interested to see the printed version and check out the bonus content that's included in this volume. The story is fast-paced and funny, and it includes plenty of action as well as emotional connections between major and supporting characters. The artwork is lively and colorful and filled with snarky humor.
