StoneCo Ltd. is a Brazilian financial technology company that provides payment processing, digital banking, credit and business software, primarily to small and medium-sized merchants in Brazil.[1] Its shares are listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol STNE.[2]
History
[edit]StoneCo was founded in 2012 by André Street and Eduardo Pontes as a payments company serving merchants.[1] In October 2018, the company raised about US$1.1 billion in an initial public offering on the Nasdaq, pricing its shares at US$24, above the indicated range; the stock rose about 30% on its first day of trading.[2][3] Investors in the offering included Berkshire Hathaway and Ant Group.[1]
Between 2025 and 2026, the company repositioned its consumer-facing Stone brand, shifting from an identity centred on card-payment terminals toward a broader ecosystem of financial services for entrepreneurs, including a business account, credit and cards, and launched a new visual identity in 2026.[4][5]
Operations
[edit]In Brazil, StoneCo operates as a payment institution authorised by the Central Bank of Brazil and, through subsidiaries, holds direct-credit company (SCD) and finance-company (SCFI) authorisations supporting its banking and lending products.[6] Its brands include Stone, Ton, Pagar.me and Linx.
