Draft:Sooner Generating Station

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sooner Generating Station

Sooner Generating Station is a coal-fired power plant in the United States in Oklahoma.[1][2][3][4] In 2025 the Environmental Defense Fund and other environmental organisations sued saying it had been granted an exemption by the Environmental Protection Agency.[5]

In 2026 the Department of Energy granted it $22.5 million for a new control system saying that the plant was critical to support growth in local electricity demand,[6] and Oklahoma Gas & Electric will contribute $35 million.[7] The government money is provided under the Defense Production Act, but critics claim that new gas-fire or renewable power would be cheaper.[8]
