Solace Health is a healthtech platform that matches patients with healthcare advocates who help them navigate the U.S. healthcare system.[1] Services include help with understanding medical bills and treatment plans, as well as finding physicians and scheduling appointments.[2][4] Established in 2022, the privately held company is based in Redwood City, California[1] and achieved a $1 billion valuation in 2026.[2]
History
[edit]Jeremy Gurewitz and Sara Sargent co-founded Solace Health in 2022[2] after Gurewitz watched his mother struggle to navigate the healthcare system while she battled pancreatic cancer.[1] His mother had difficulty even though she was an experienced physician with an understanding of the medical system[1][2][5] and relied on her son to be her advocate.[6]
Patients initially paid for Solace services out of pocket.[1] This changed in 2024 when Medicare started covering patient advocacy services for chronic and complicated health conditions.[1][2] When Medicare reimburses advocates, Solace receives a share in exchange for use of its platform.[2]
By February 2026, 95% of Solace patients were covered by insurance.[7] In April 2026, the company announced additional insurance coverage from major health plans, including United Healthcare and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.[5] In 2026, the company also partnered with Disabled American Veterans (DAV)[8] and the American Legion[9] to help U.S. military veterans navigate healthcare.
Services
[edit]Solace specializes in doing the work for patients, rather than simply providing advice on what patients should do.[10] In early 2026, Solace had more than 2,000 participating advocates[2] providing services to more than 20,000 patients each month.[5] Advocates include registered nurses,[11] physicians' assistants, pharmacists, social workers, and health administrators.[12] They undergo a rigorous screening process to ensure their medical qualifications[13] and have 16 years of experience on average.[11]
Solace assigns advocates to patients who communicate with patients one-on-one via e-mail, text, phone call, and video chat.[4][6] Healthcare providers can also refer patients to the service.[14] In addition to helping with appointments, paperwork, insurance coverage and appeals, and care coordination,[14] advocates can also go to appointments with patients, either virtually or in person.[1][10] They organize medical documents, keep family members informed, and preside over care transitions and research participation.[7] Solace advocates do not prescribe medications or diagnose medical conditions.[7]
Platform and technology
[edit]Solace matches advocates with patients using a proprietary matching algorithm.[15] The HIPAA-compliant[6] digital platform facilitates real-time embedded interaction between the advocate and the patient.[10][15] Solace's own electronic health records system pulls together a patient's health history.[2][14] It also handles Medicare billing.[2] In addition, Solace provides a clinical community for its advocates to share resources.[15]
Fundraising and growth
[edit]Solace raised a $14 million Series A in August 2024,[12] led by Alexa von Tobel and Inspired Capital.[16][14] In April 2025, Solace announced a $60 million Series B,[17] which was twice the amount they intended to raise, led by Menlo Ventures.[1] The Wall Street Journal reported that investor interest increased once Solace was covered by Medicare.[1] In February 2026, Solace announced a $130 million Series C led by IVP,[2][18] bringing the total company funding to $211 million[2][10] and the valuation to more than $1 billion.[2]
