Shivam Thakur is an Indian sport shooter who competes in the 10 metre air pistol event.[1][2] He has represented India in international shooting competitions, including the Indo–Malaysia International Championship and the Indo–Nepal International Championship.[3] At the 2020 Indo–Malaysia International Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, he won a gold medal in the individual event and a silver medal in the team event.[4] During the COVID-19 pandemic, Thakur announced that he would contribute 60 percent of his earnings to support athletes affected by the pandemic.[5][6][7] He also auctioned cricket memorabilia gifted to him by cricketers Hardik Pandya and Arjun Tendulkar to raise funds for financially struggling athletes.[8][9]
Early life
[edit]Thakur's family is originally from the Indian state of Bihar. Before taking up shooting, he played cricket but switched to the sport after suffering a ligament injury. He later pursued his shooting career from Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.[6][5][8][9]

[edit]Thakur initially played cricket before a ligament injury led him to take up competitive shooting. He later specialised in the 10 metre air pistol event and represented India in domestic and international competitions.[1][9][5]
2020 Indo–Malaysia International Championship
[edit]In February 2020, Thakur represented India at the Indo–Malaysia International Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He won the gold medal in the individual 10 metre air pistol event and the silver medal in the team event. Following his performance, he stated that his long-term goal was to represent India at the Olympic Games.[3]
Indo–Nepal International Championship
[edit]Thakur later competed at the Indo–Nepal International Championship held in Pokhara, Nepal, where he won the gold medal in the 10 metre air pistol event.[10]
NRAI competitions
[edit]Thakur has participated in competitions conducted by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), including national-level rifle and pistol events.[11]
Philanthropy
[edit]During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Thakur announced that he would contribute 60 percent of his earnings over the next three years to support athletes affected by the pandemic. Later that year, he auctioned cricket memorabilia gifted to him by cricketers Hardik Pandya and Arjun Tendulkar to raise funds for financially struggling athletes.[5][12][1][2][7]
2026 Greater Noida incident
[edit]In February 2026, Thakur alleged that unidentified occupants of a sport utility vehicle rammed his car and opened fire while he was returning home in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Following an investigation, the police arrested one person in connection with the collision and stated that they found no evidence of gunfire, describing the incident as a road traffic collision.[13][14][15][16][17]
