Shekar Chandra (also known as Shekar Chandru) is an Indian cinematographer who primarily works in the Kannada film industry. He has worked as a cinematographer on Kannada-language feature films since the early 2000s.
Early life and career
[edit]Shekar Chandra was born on 1 June 1974 in Talakatta, Chitradurga district, Karnataka, India.
He began his career in cinematography in the early 2000s. His first film was the Kannada film Neela Megha Shyama, released in 2002.
He subsequently worked on films including Prema Kaidhi, Nandhi, Bala Shiva, Baa Baaro Rasika, Gowdru, Giri, Sakha Sakhi and Preethigagi.
His cinematography credits include films across romantic drama, action, comedy and thriller genres. He later worked on films such as Bachchan, Mungaru Male 2, Chowka, Kotigobba 3, Upadhyaksha and Max.
For Mungaru Male 2, Chandra received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Cinematographer.[1]

The Karnataka State Film Awards recognised Shekar Chandra with the Best Cinematography award for Mungaru Male 2.[2]
Shekar Chandra was nominated for Best Cinematographer – Kannada at the SIIMA Awards for Bachchan, Brahma and Kotigobba 3.
At the 2025 Chandanavana Film Critics Academy Awards, Shekar Chandra received the Best Cinematography award for Max.[3]
Upcoming projects
[edit]Karnatabalam Ajeyam is an upcoming Kannada film directed by Naganna. Shekar Chandra is attached to the project as cinematographer. The film is scheduled for release in 2027.[4]
