Sergei Mosunov is a Russian technology entrepreneur, venture capitalist and owner of Fabergé UK Limited.
He founded an optics and laser company with the Russian government being a main customer. He sold the company in 2014 and transitioned into venture investing. He has been described as a collector of rare books and historical artefacts.[1][2] In late 2025 Mosunov attended the auction of the Fabergé Winter Egg with hopes of acquiring it from the Qatar Authority of Museums.[3]
Early life
[edit]Mosunov grew up in Nizhny Novgorod, one of Russia’s economic, cultural and technological centres. He attended the Yevstigneev Nizhny Novgorod Theatre School[4] and studied engineering at university. He completed executive education programmes at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) and the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management. He later undertook studies in venture capital at Stanford University.[5][6][7]
Public life
[edit]Mosunov had a period of public activism in Russia when organising an open letter from himself and 300 locals to petition Vladimir Putin for a cleaner city in Nizhny Novgorod.[4] He stated he had no political ambitions, but was interested in improvements to the quality of life in the city.[8] He did not pursue public appointments or engage in any elections.
In seeking infrastructure partnerships with Belgium and Luxembourg, he became a representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Belgium and Luxembourg in the Volga Federal District in 2017.[8] He briefly served as an advisor to the city’s mayor, Elizaveta Solonchenko, on international relations and preparations related to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.[4]
Business ventures
[edit]Mosunov founded R’AIN Group in 2005, an optics and laser technology company specialising in zinc compound crystals used in infrared optics and defence-related applications.[1] Following the sale of the business in 2014, he established Mosunov & Partners and began investing in Nizhny Novgorod projects including chemicals, farming, 3D technology and payday loans.[7][8]
He relocated to the United States in 2020 and co-founded The Garage Syndicate with fellow Russian entrepreneurs, investing in high-growth ventures which included Revolut and Klarna.[1][9] He established US-based SMG Capital, an investment firm while there. He moved to London in 2022.[10] In August 2025, Mosunov acquired Fabergé UK Limited from mining company Gemfields. He is both owner and CEO of Faberge.[11]
