Satchel Lee (born December 2, 1994)[1][2][3] is an American photographer and filmmaker. Her works are primarily mixed media. Through her artistic practice Lee attempts to capture everyday life through unconventional visuals to freeze moments in time, unpack hazy memories, and explore deep questions about identity and existence.
Early life
[edit]Lee was born on December 2, 1994, and raised in New York, New York.[3] She was born to Spike and Tonya Lewis Lee and has one sibling, a brother named Jackson.[4][5]
In 2017, Lee completed her undergraduate studies at New York University, then completed her Master of Fine Arts at the Art Institute of Chicago.[4]
Career
[edit]Lee, as a filmmaker, was nominated as a finalist for the "Through Her Lens" grant from the Tribeca Film Institute / Chanel for Night Bloom.[6]
As an artist, Lee's exhibition Where We Find Ourselves, at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Freedmen’s Town Conservancy, was on display in two row houses. Lee also directed a documentary A Dream Held Close: Life and Legacy in Freedmen’s Town to accompany the exhibit and it was shown in a back room of the first house.[7]
