Sapri Sale, born 10 December 1968, is an Indonesian Hebrew language teacher and lexicographer. He compiled the first Hebrew - Indonesian bilingual dictionary and teaches Hebrew classes at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.[1][2]

Early life and education

Sale was born in Palu, Central Sulawesi.[3] He moved to Malang, East Java, to study at the pesantren of Darrut Tauhid, an Islamic boarding school.[4][5]

From 1989 to 1996, he studied Arabic literature at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. While living in Cairo, he began studying Hebrew independently and took courses at the Israeli academic center in Cairo around.[6][7]

Career

After returning to Indonesia, Sale worked as an Arabic and Hebrew instructor. In 2018, he published a Hebrew - Indonesian and Indonesian - Hebrew dictionary.[8]

In 2024, he started teaching Hebrew language courses at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. His classes received coverage from several local and international news outlets.[9][10][11]
