Samir Saad Mahmoud Farag is a retierd Egyptian military officer.[1] who served as governor of Luxor from 2009 till 2011, he also served as director of the moral affairs department at the Egyptian armed forces from 1993 to 2000, in addition, he held the position of first undersecretary of the ministry of tourism and served as head of the Egyptian opera house the National Cultural Center [2], he currently serves as chairman and managing director of Nat Energy .

He graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy i in 1963 and joined the infantry corps ,he graduated from the Egyptian  Army staff college in 1973, and subsequently joined the Royal college of defense ,in  Camberley in England in 1974,after graduation he was appointed as an instructor there , becoming the first officer outside NATO and commonwealth countries to hold to hold such a position.

He took part in four wars, the Yemen war 1963, the June 1967 war, the attrition war and the 6 th of october 1973 war[3]

while studing at the Royal college of defense , Farag participated in a BBC program about the 1973 war during which he debated israeli general ariel sharon[4]

Egyptian Opera House

Between 2000 and 2004, Farag served as chairman of the national cultural center, the institution responsible for overseeing the Cairo opera house.[5]

During his time as chairman, the Arabic music institute was renovated and reopened, while two museums dedicated to Egyptian musician Mohamed Abdel Wahab .

Luxor

In 2004 , Samit Farag became the head of the supreme council of the city of Luxor , during which he oversaw a number of development projects , like the discovery of the avenue of sphinxes , the development of the plaza of Karnak temple and Luxor temple [6]

In 2009 Luxor turned from city to governorate, and was appointed as its first governor[7]

Farag is also an author who has published books and articles on military affairs, national security, strategy, history, and his experiences in public service.
