Sam Wiebe is a Canadian author, known for writing Pacific Northwest crime fiction. He is best known for the Wakeland series, which feature Vancouver PI David Wakeland.

His work has been shortlisted for the Edgar Awards, Hammett Prize, Shamus Awards and City of Vancouver Book Awards. Wiebe has won the Kobo Emerging Writer Prize in the mystery genre in 2015 for Last of the Independents, the Crime Writers of Canada Award for Best Crime Novella in 2021 for Never Going Back, and a silver medal from the Independent Publisher Book Awards for Hell and Gone.[1][2][3][4]

In addition to writing, Wiebe served as the editor of Vancouver Noir, part of Akashic Books' Noir series. The anthology features works by Canadian authors such as Sheena Kamal, Linda L. Richards, Timothy Taylor, and Wiebe himself.

Wiebe's works are often set in his hometown of Vancouver, and has expressed a desire to show the city as a local sees it, rather than how a tourist experiences it.[5] Wiebe has always been interested in crime fiction, and has cited Dashiell Hammett, John D. MacDonald, and Sue Grafton as writing inspirations, as well as John McFetridge's Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and Richard Wagamese's Keeper N Me as influential works.[6][7] He lives in New Westminster, B.C.[8]
