Safe Boating America is a boating safety education organization based in Bethpage, New York. It provides boating safety instruction and personal watercraft certification courses.

History

[edit]

Safe Boating America was founded by Richard Werner as a provider of boating safety education. In 2013, Werner testified before the Connecticut General Assembly as president and owner of Safe Boating America, describing the organization's classroom and online boating safety instruction and certification programs.[1]

In 2017, Safe Boating America collaborated with local officials and boating-safety advocates at a boating safety awareness event in Bay Shore, New York. The event included boating-safety seminars and water-safety classes.[2]

In 2017, News 12 Long Island identified Richard Werner with Safe Boating America while reporting on proposed boating-safety legislation in New York. Werner discussed boating accidents and safety education for boat operators.[3]

In 2018, NPR interviewed Werner following a fatal amphibious duck-boat accident in Missouri. NPR identified Werner as an operator of Safe Boating America and described the organization as providing boating-safety training.[4]

In 2021, CBS New York interviewed Werner in coverage of Brianna's Law, which requires operators of motorized watercraft in New York to complete a boating-safety course. Werner discussed operator training and boating accidents.[5]

A 2025 article published by the South Shore Press reported that boating-safety courses were being offered through Safe Boating America in Riverhead, New York, in connection with New York's mandatory boating-safety certification requirements.[6]

In June 2026, the Town of Oyster Bay held a boating-safety event at which Richard Werner participated as National Education Director of Safe Boating America. The event focused on boating and personal-watercraft safety.[7]

[edit]

In 2020, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators named Richard Werner its Northern Region Educator of the Year. The organization identified Werner as the owner of Safe Boating America and described the company's boating-education activities in New York and Connecticut.[8]
