Draft:Rich Redman

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rich Redman is a game designer who has worked for Wizards of the Coast, working on the 3rd edition of Dungeons & Dragons. He is also one of the founders of the Game Mechanics.

Career

[edit]

Rich Redman had been an officer in the United States Army, and also worked as a door-to-door salesman, a computer store manager, and a fundraiser for a veterans' assistance group.[1]

Redman began working in the hobby games industry and spent most of his early years working on Dungeons & Dragons with Wizards of the Coast, also working as the manager of their Customer Service department.[1] He was a prolific game designer for Wizards, and worked on several well-known games and systems, including Dungeons & Dragons, d20 Modern, Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game, and Dark✶Matter.[1] Redman designed a significant portion of the d20 Modern game, and offered additional design for the Modern Player's Companion.[2] A 2024 retrospective book of the D&D game stated that the game's 3rd edition book Deities & Demigods (2002), written by Redman, Skip Williams, and James Wyatt "can be considered the pinnacle so far of this kind of intellectual and philosophical exploration of religion(s) in D&D."[3]

Redman was a co-founder of The Game Mechanics, Inc. alongside JD Wiker and Stan!, where he held the role of Vice President, and continued to do freelance game design outside his executive role.[1]
