RapidMade, Inc. is an Oregon-based manufacturing company specializing in rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and 3D scanning. The company developed its early operations through the Portland State University Business Accelerator, where it produced prototypes and scale models for industrial customers.[1]

History

[edit]

RapidMade was founded by Renee Eaton and Mark Eaton, who had previous experience in manufacturing. According to a 2014 profile in Oregon Business, Renee Eaton had previously managed a Nabisco manufacturing plant in Pennsylvania, and the founders became interested in creating a manufacturing company after exploring the potential applications of 3D printing technology.[1]

During its early years, RapidMade operated through the Portland State University Business Accelerator, providing rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, 3D printing, and 3D scanning services for industrial customers. The company produced scale models of industrial equipment, including pumps, boilers, and container-making machinery, which customers used for demonstrations and trade shows.[1]

In 2014, RapidMade had approximately 200 customers, most of them in the Portland area, and was expanding into additional regions of the United States and Canada. At the time, the company employed four full-time staff and had received support through a $150,000 Portland Development Commission grant.[1]

By 2016, the company had quadrupled its revenue and staff, expanded its workspace, added 3D scanning and printing equipment, and leased further space connected to the Portland State University Business Accelerator for its engineering operations.[2]

In 2018, Oregon Business featured Renee Eaton, identified as RapidMade's CEO and co-founder, in an article about women in Oregon's manufacturing sector. The article discussed her involvement with manufacturing organizations, including Women in Manufacturing.[3]

Operations

[edit]

RapidMade's early operations focused on rapid prototyping, reverse engineering, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and 3D scanning. The company used these technologies to create industrial prototypes, models, and engineering solutions for customers.[1]
